GASON cd 746 - ROBERTO GONZALES - SVENSKA BALLADER AV EN VANDRARE

The title of the album - Swedish Ballads by a Wanderer - has a special meaning to Roberto Gonzales. He is simply a wanderer. Roberto Gonzales was born in 1948 in Bordeaux, southwestern France. His parents had fled from Franco and the Civil War Spain. As a child he got to experience that belong to two worlds: the French in the street and the Spanish as soon as he came through the door at home. As a youth he participated in the May revolt 1968. Then he traveled around, lived in Ibiza and came in the 1970s to Sweden.

Swedish is not his natural language, but then Roberto Gonzales came to Sweden, he learned not only language but also discovered the Swedish troubadours Bellman, Cornelis and Fred Åkerström, some of those who influenced him. There is also a very conscious choice to use Swedish as the language of music. Besides that it is a taunt to all Swedish artists who are constantly using the English language, Roberto Gonzales wants to put it in a multi-faceted language.

- As I write in Swedish I do make a claim. This is MY Swedish, and therefore also part of today's Swedish, like all other Swedes living here today.

Roberto Gonzales wants to highlight his accent and even that of his fellow musicians of the album. Justine Nansubuga from Uganda and Swede Cajsalisa Ejemyr sing with different accents, Eric Steen plays flamenco, Mikael Augustsson plays Argentine bandoneon.

- Together, we emphasize that multiculturalism, that is the world that the Swedish language and culture are part of and shaped by.

The base of this CD is the energetic guitar playing of Roberto himself and the stabile virtuoso double bass playing of Martin Bergstrand.
